Inspired by the emotive electronic dance music that came out of Italy in the 1980s, this set of three miniatures, collectively titled "Distant Planet", is structured like a classical sonata, with the more active pieces bracketing a slow-burning, contemplative centerpiece. They were recorded on the 1915 Baldwin Model L at the Hotel 2 Tango studio in Montreal, and the bright, percussive quality of the piano echos the synth melodies and crisp rhythms of the Italo Disco songs that are reimagined in this collection.

The first track, which gives the set its name, features one of the most iconic motifs in the cosmic-themed songs beloved by fans of the Italo genre. The lyrics of the original "Distant Planet", by The Voyagers, describe sublime, earth-bound experiences so powerful, they seem to come from other, far away worlds. "Get Closer" recycles the main melody sung in the original by Valerie Dore through different variations. It is a plea for a closer connection to another individual in a world filled with others who yearn for the same thing. "Coda" plays with the concept of a short melody, rhythmically shifted through the meter, similar to the original motoric instrumental by Amin Peck.
